Pictures of The "Men of Mystery" (US band)

Postby abel » 15 May 2010, 22:42

Hi all,

I hope everyone is in good health and spirit.

Here are a couple of pictures from our show at the Huntington Beach Pier Plaza on May 2nd.
I am playing my new VOX and my Mex 50 Classic strat.
The rhythm guitar is playing a strat with a Piezo pickup that sounds just like a Martin acoustic through an acoutsic amp.
Danny Dean our singer (who toured and recorded with Ian Samwell in the late 70's? ) is in middle of the 2nd picture.

You all look fabulous. Really enjoying yourselves. A lot of energy on stage.

Did you manage to tame the treble of your new AC 30?

Lovely to see those pics Abel.

I remember when I was a mad keen surfer 40 years ago we used to read about and see surfing films and magazines of "surfing the pier" at Huntingdon Beach CA, and here you are 40 years later playing there.

You are generous "Dance with the Shadows", I think a younger lead guitar would have improved the picture a bit.
I am getting a very good sound now by using the connected inputs, the volume half way, the Master all the way up and all the other buttons down to Zero.
I am also using the Ariab and my new MXR EQ pedal.
What's funny is that I am getting an even closer sound with my JC120 Roland amp.

Tony,

It never occured to me either that one day I would be walking in HB, let alone playing there.

Blessings,
Abel

Hi Abel,

I guess you've discovered that the treble and bass controls are highly interactive and therefore don't seem to work like Fender type controls. I have also noticed that a tad to the left or to the right of the treble or bass control alters the sound enormously. The cut control is your friend in taming some of the treble. I am surprised that you are running all of the eq on the amp at zero. Are you getting much bass?

regards

Hi Michael,

I' ll post a picture of my settings here soon so you can see what I do.

Wstagner,

At our next performance (May 30th, Memorial Day at Suzy's in Hermosa Beach) we'll make sure someone captures a video of us playing.
At the Pier, they had a professional company making a Video-Documentary of the Day at the Beach.
We are trying to locate that company.

Blessings,
Abel
