copyright violations

Postby burnsernst » 18 Jul 2010, 17:49

Hi Friends,

a good Youtube friend of mine (shonerip) from Italy had to delete two videos - " Wonderful Land and Peace Pipe" because of copyright violations.
He did nothing other than many of us. I have more than 230 Videos (mostly Shadows ) but luckily never had any problems with the Copyright.

Do we really violate the Copyrights on posting our Shadows tunes played to backing tracks ? That would be the end of a lot of good stuff on Youtube.

Any ideas what happened or what to do ??

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Regards Ernst

I have never had problems with Shadows tracks Ernst, but I have had tracks by the Drifters and Johnny & the Hurricanes deleted on my Vintage Sixties Live channel, accompanied by threats of having my account closed.

As I understand it, YouTube has a lot of software that scans through videos looking for audio from commercially-available tracks, which are likely to be violating copyright (as well as responding to reports of unauthorised content from users). It may be that your videos got picked up by these automatic checks.

If we're going by the absolute letter of the law, my understanding is that posting recordings of commercially-available backing tracks is breaking the law, although I can't imagine that there's much to be gained by the copyright holders expending a lot of effort trying to get these taken down, especially in The Shadows' case.

Cheers

Hi All, I do hope we are not going to get carried away with this, we all use the available BTs and post on U-Tube like Ernst I have some 40 odd on their. But I can't see who it is hurting ? not the guys like Ian Mac or Roger Paulsson etc because I for one always give the bt maker I use a plug also Tony kiek or Peter Korving if anything it won't be those guys complaining. The trouble is you will always get an element who will try and push out the bounderies and draw attention to themselves,in this country Ernst it's called taking the mickey! U-tube is an okay sight and long may it reamain so.
