Guitar techs...isn't it amazing where they show up?

Postby bgohara » 09 Aug 2010, 21:00

Was watching the DVD of 'Concert for George' - the all star tribute concert featuring George Harrison's songs put on by Eric Clapton in 2002 - and spotted Alan Rogan, who looked after Hank's guitars on the recent Cliff & the Shadows Tour (he has also looked after Pete Townsend for years - as per previous messages on this site).

I also spotted Lionall's name (who has looked after Hank's guitars and also Cliff's guitars on a number of tours) in the credits for the Led Zeppelin reunion gig at the O2 a couple of years ago. Isn't it amazing where these guys show up?

Mind you - I'm not sure I'd like to be away from home on tour as much as the roadies - or to have to deal with some of those so called stars who are complete prima donnas!! (no names mentioned...outside shadow world of course!!)

Concert for George DVD is well worth getting if you like George Harrison - though it is expensive at over £20 - I've never seen it cheaper than that - I think though it has remained full price because it was in aid of charity.

If you pop across to Amazon using the link above they've got it there for just over a tenner for "used" although I've usually found "used" items to be like new unless flaw has been declared by the seller. Even the new price is only £17.99. I got it when it first came out and I think it's a very fitting tribute by some great artists. Some, like Albert Lee worked hard and were on stage all night. The ending with Joe Brown singing "I'll See you in My Dreams" accompanied by his uke was particularly moving. Well, I thought so anyway.

I saw Alan Rogan at the old Wembley Arena when at that time he was with Joe Walsh. I think Lionel has been Jimmy Pages guitar technisian since the time when JP was managed by the Shads/hanks manager also. Everybody seems to be linked together one way or another in the music world.
