Pancho I do not think Ronnie has the right sound not the one on the records anyway although it's a very good tone of course but not what I was after

Ray sorry if you thought I was saying the wrong thing ... was not intended to be a knock on your capabilities I am sure you are well versed in these things

I am sure some of our better sound file people and technicians have gone down this route thats why I asked ... oh well if you want a job doing better do it yourself

Hi Roger,
What I was trying to say is that in that interview with Ronnie, you can see how he uses the Boss GEQ-10 to get his sound, with all controls on the amplifier to 0. So I think this is a good starting point for further research. You can start with his settings and modify them later to get a sound to your liking.

I know that Peter Korving used the same EQ, I don't know if he still uses it.

Hi Roger,

Thanks, no problem here... as I said I may have misunderstood your comments... that's the problem with this type of communication. :D

I am am happy to have a play with some of my fancy toys if anyone can give me some real clean solo tracks of "that sound" of course as Amanda has said "which that sound" and that is so true if you listen to them over the years. Maybe "that sound" is like a holy grail everyone wants IT but nobody quite knows where it is. (or what it is)

It may be simplistic of me but I have picked up in some threads that the Meazzi (which I have no experience with) has been credited with helping create this sound.
Has anyone just built a Meazzi pre-amp section and see what happens... the circuits seem available for some models ?

Just a thought

Cheers :) :) :)

Thanks Didier and Pancho... I already have a pretty good live sound that I like I was talking more about getting something more like what say the TVS does and the guy I think who has cracked this already is GeTab have a listen to some of his sounds on UTube ... he uses a UltraCurve which I believe is the key to getting a closer sound. I was thinking that RTA would assist in finding out some of the correct EQ points and 'reverse engineering' so to speak if that makes sense and using a device like an UltraCurve to get the sounds more like the real deal. I know you could use your ears but RTA would be useful to 'see' the frequencies.

I think Charlie Hall and other echo designers have used this sort of analysis to find out timings for delays so it makes sense to use RTA to work out the EQ if that makes any sense.

Ray

I must have missed you last post !

As far as the Meazzi circuitry goes it is probably the pre amp stage of certain models which helps and I think Patrice Bastien was one who went down that route and I have had the pleasure of playing through Justins and heard several others they do contribute to the sound for sure but it is EQ in the studio that shapes the sound on the records and thats what I was alluding too . The other feature that would be nice to crack is the Abbey Road reverb as it also contributes to the sound and has very distinctive tails and the way it was mixed into the recording (I believe they removed some of the top and bottom frequencies so it was mainly mids that went through the reverb room. I heard somewhere and general advice on recording I read elsewhere recommends revoving some of the treble frequencies too .. so EQ features in shaping the reverb sound as well !

I know you could pick any record by the Shads and say they are different sound ... arn't they all .. all treated differently to get the desired finish on the sound.
