Nice tasteful guitar with echo for the main melody theme, an accordian giving a French touch reflecting the Anglo- French locale of the show, and a gentle reggae beat.

That was Ray Russell playing guitar on that George Fenton session.

Another good old theme was that used for 'Callan'...listen to those very heavy gauge flatwounds on a great moody dark minor key melody...was it dear old Bert on that session, I wonder?

No, it wasn't Bert Weedon, though Bert did issue his own (separate) version in 1970. Ike Isaacs is another guitarist who has made a recording of the very atmospheric theme tune. My favourite is the one by The Secrets from around two years ago... ;)

I'm afraid that it wasn't, it was written by Mike Moran. Warren & Brian Bennett produced the production music. :|

On ABC TV here in Australia, years ago there used to be a regular daytime rural topical show called 'CountryWide', articles of interest to farming folk etc

The theme tune was a superb evocative acoustic fingerpicked thing composed and played by Tommy Emmanuel.

Last year, I saw Tommy in concert here in Adelaide. He'd just finished one tune, and a woman in the audience yelled out 'Countrywide!'

He laughed and said ' oh, I'm doing requests now, am I?' Then he launched straight into the tune- which he probably hadn't played for about 20 years- and it was note perfect of course!

Tommy Emmanuel is a priceless star, a light at the end of the tunnel in the dirge of crap we have to put up with these days. :)

Must agree,Dave, saw Tommy in Belfast last night and as usual he was brilliant. He says he will be touring UK next year with his band to celebrate 50 years in the business, mixture of electric and acoustic,- don't think he is bringing it to N Ireland unfortunately.
