That's odd - I could have sworn I heard a seven-note bass solo right at the end :-)

Sorry I didn't realise that seven notes was a solo

It is with my playing. Any more and the eighth note will be a clinker. (Jim Nugent will verify this)

Last week at the local jam at the village pub, there were only a few musicians there at starting time (21:00).

So the guitarist/double-bassist who runs it played drums, Brian Brockie (a great guitarist and singer) played bass and I played guitar (a Fiesta Red 1962 VRI Strat).

Brian suggested Nivram... so off we went (it's easy to play both guitar parts on one instrument during the melody).

As we came to the coda of Nivram, and in the way of these things, I could hear the opening bars of Baby My Heart in my "mind's ear". So I counted it in and we played and sang it. We could hardly follow that with See You In My Drums, so we did Shadoogie. And then kept up the mood with Gonzales. Yes - I had to stick to things where we could get away with it without a rhythm guitar. Come to think of it, See You In My Drums would have been a good choice...

There's so many different ways of playing that tune - splendid stuff...

JimN

Needs must when the Devil drives....having played in many trios, I worked out ways of playing guitar instrumentals by the Shads, Ventures and others by incorporating rhythm with the lead lines, and whilst it sounded full and quite OK, I wouldn't think some fanatic Shads enthusiasts would approve- but what the hell?! A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! :D
