Yes I have heard this before, Chet was a master of the guitar and this a totally different approach to this tune.It would be interesting to know when he recorded this and if he had heard the Shadows version first. As we all know this was the theme tune from The Edgar Wallace Mystery films so who knows where Chet first heard this tune.

Hello Derek,

According to the liner notes on "The Essential Chet Atkins" he recorded his version in 1961. The notes say: "He tackled 'Man Of Mystery,' a 1960 hit for British instrumental rockers the Shadows."

I was lucky enough to meet Chet when he was over here many years ago. There was a Chet Atkins appreciation society then run by Jim Beam and he and Richard Taylor's father had brought Chet over for a concert at I believe "Her Majesty's Theatre". The next day Chet gave a private performance for some of the members on a amplified acoustic Gibson. He admitted to being a little tired but the performance was flawless and I had a chance to grab a autograph on a vinyl cover and to meet another guitar icon.
