Important Notice - Sussex Club Meeting

Postby Tab » 26 Mar 2011, 14:08

We have been, today, contacted by a very irate manager of the Seaford Constitutional Club (our venue) with regard to an article in the Sussex Express, obviously initiated by Mr Ritchy Rich or whatever he calls himself, inviting all Cliff and The shadows fans to attend the first anniversary of the Sussex Shadows Club which will be attended by 'The Fabulous Shadows' complete with their seven and a half ton tour van.

This was done without our knowledge and certainly without our permission and, we assume, as a cheap publicity stunt for Mr Rich and his misleadingly named group.

As the Seaford Constitutional Club is a private members club who have kindly allowed us to use their function room once a month, you can imagine that they have taken a dim view of this action, not withstanding the fact that they have had no warning of potentially huge numbers of people descending upon the club and are, therefore, ill prepared with regard to staff and stock.

We were looking forward to our little event, but this has spoilt things - our first instinct was to cancel all together but after speaking (and profusely apologising) to the Seaford Club's manager it will still go ahead. However, Mr. Rich, The Fabulous Shadows and their tour van will not be welcome.

I post this to advise those of you who plan to come, that there may be half the Country turning up expecting to see Hank and Bruce and also as a warning to anyone who may have future dealings with Mr. Rich and Co.

Kind regards,

Terry & Ray

Sussex Shadows ...A VERY ANGRY AND ANNOYED RITCHY RICH

This newspaper article has nothing to do with me..and was done without my knowledge or consent.
I will be in contact with our production company on Monday to see what is going on.

.......this is obviously another attempt to run The Fabulous Shadows into the ground, we intended to come and join in the celebrations with you all..and even play a few numbers. meet people and have some fun.

This is NOT a publicity stunt by us ....we are really angry...after all the negative comments we have had from The Surrey Shadows Club....this really does take the biscut.....there are some sick people out there especially with comments like " Hang Us"

Terry & Ray you invited us and said all welcome....now we are not.....we will stay away .... I make no apologies for the sicko who pulled this stunt....but would like to meet him or her.....we do not need this type of harmful cheap publicity.

In response to Ritchy's comments above, I have to say that 'very angry and annoyed' was exactly how we felt at having our little celebration hijacked for the purpose of publicity or, if Ritchy is to be believed, some sort of vengeance against him or his band.

As far as we were concerned, Ritchy Rich is the production company and originator of all things 'The Fabulous Shadows' but we await, with interest, the outcome of his internal investigation. Furthermore, from personal experience, we find it difficult to believe that the members of The Surrey Club would waste their time in this vindictive pursuit.

However, what ever the whys and wherefors, it is a golden opportunity missed for The Fabulous Shadows to come along and be counted, play a few numbers and make a few friends instead of courting controversy.

The Sussex Club has always enjoyed a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and we sincerely hope that these events have not damaged that or our relationhip with the Seaford Contitutional Club.

Kind regards,

Terry & Ray

I have to say I was surprised to read your comments yesterday.

As a newcomer, I was very much looking forward to attending todays meeting. I had heard good things about 'The Fabulous Shadows' following their show last month at The Harlequin in Redhill. And with Jet's sad departure last week, I would have liked to have met other like-minded people to pay tribute to him and to celebrate his contribution to The Shadows' music, as I have been a lifetime fan.

Surely you want people to come to these meetings, rather than just a select few? If this is how you treat your guests, I for one certainly will not be coming today!

Andrew,

You have completely misunderstood the reasons for the above comments the fine details of which are not for this site. Please PM me or call (there is a number posted in the Club area) and I will explain.

The Sussex Club has been open to all - not just a 'select few' - We would love to see you.

Kind regards,

Terry

That's odd....

I was sure that Andrew is the rhythm guitarist for the Fabulous Shadows? How odd!

Just wanted to say a quick THANK YOU to Terry, Ray and Don, as well as to all those guitar players and listeners who came along to the meeting.

I had an absolute ball. Quality meet, friendly, welcoming folks - what more could anyone want??!

Hope to do it all again sometime. Next time you want a back line, please let us know.

Best wishes and thanks again.
