'Back then' Hank had a black CBS Strat that he had fitted with a Fender 'Wide Range' humbucker in the bridge and a Gibson PAF at the neck, along with a few microswitches to play single coil, in/out of phase etc. You will see that Strat used on quite a few clips from that era, and I think a lot of 'Rocking With Curley Leads' was done using that guitar - John Farrar was using a Telecaster at that time with two humbuckers and may have had some influence on Hank in this, but that is an opinion nothing more. So, some of 'that sound' as far as recordings in that era are not necessarily from a single coil Strat.
