Greetings From China

Postby Ian Miller » 15 Nov 2010, 07:13

Hi All,

Well here I am again in Dalian, China, this time for an extended stay for up to 6 months.
Would beleive I actually forgot to bring my laptop in the last minute dash to the airport so luckily I am able to borrow one ocasionally.

Unfortunately I think owing to the restrictions here I am unable to access many sites such as You Tube, 4 Shared and even Charlie Hall's site! So am unable to watch or listen to members tunes etc.

This time I hope to visit the Daewon Musical Instrument Instrument factory here in Dalian who are makers of Rally Guitars as well as many other 'names' we all know.

In due course I will have to get a duplicate set of guitar kit here as I will in future be splitting my time between Uk and China.

I shall visit here as often as possible to try to keep up to date with what is happening.

Keep On Rockin

Best Wishes

Ian

Good to hear from you Ian... it would be really interesting to hear of your progress and particularly the guitar factories in China...

Hi All,

Well I've now returned from China having just spent the last five and a half months there.
Well one of my prime missions was to go to the Daewon musical instrument factory in Dalian. Unfortunately this did not happen as I contracted some sort of respiratory infection which laid me low for a considerable time. The other prime purpose was to find and buy an apartment which I'm happy to say was successful.
Needless to say I won't be returning to NE China for the winter period with their temperatures of -14 to -18!!
I'm happy to spend winter in the UK and summer in China. So No. 1 on the list for 2012 is to visit the Rally guitar factory.

Kind Regards

Ian

Oh I forgot to tell you, Nearby our new home is a musical instrument shop which sells traditional Chinese instruments as well as modern western kit.
The first thing I noticed was a white Fender Strat and on inspection was an obvious fake, very good mind you but a fake!
I was really interested in buying an acoustic of some sort so i could keep my hand in. The guitar I was most interested in was a blue acoustic with a single cutaway, and after tuning it in the the shop with the help of a piano I found that the sound was quite good. The cost of the guitar was 950 yuan ie about £95 in round figures so said *.***.*** no way and left the shop, pursued up the road by the shop owners wife who said I could have for 50 yuan cash. i said no way and we we went home. After 2 weeks we returned to the shop and keeping it short I bought the guitar for £30!! Now I'm home I can't for the life of me remember the name but it aint bad, the thing that lets it down are the awful brass strings! Which will be changed next year!!!!

Ian, the Philippines is not too far from Dalian, so visit and play Shadows. We have beautiful beaches - Boracay, Palawan, Bohol ... It seems you are planning to live in China at least during the summers? Andy

Thanks Ecca,

I probably won't be back in China until March next year as I have a couple of small medical problems to get sorted which will more than likely take time knowing what NHS waiting lists are like!! However, in the meantime I shall 'keep on rockin'.

Best Wishes
