reading track display in sunlight

Has anyone a simple cure for reading the display on minidisc decks (and similar) when playing outside, it's bad enough having to bend over or kneel down, without squinting as well....I did think of recording a quiet announcement of the title before each one, but that doesn't help you find it quickly with confidence it's the right one. Playing as a live only band is not always possible.

If you are sticking to a set list and don't have to vary it for requests etc then I would suggest that you simply
print out the play list in fairly large letters so that you can leave it at your feet and still read it comfortably when
you glance down at it.

Thanks for your suggestion, Roger - I will do that with the set list; but I still need to check the tracks, as numbers tend to get shuffled by the others in the band and there is more than one disc in use...I am waiting for an answer from Tascam to find out if it's OK to tilt the deck when in use. A Heath Robinson sunshade device might do it then?

I would be very surprised if you were not able to tilt the deck - after all you can get personal minidisc players and they work even when people wear them whilst jogging!

Thanks for help and suggestions. Tascam/Teac have replied to say that unlike cd, minidisc should be fine if tilted, but try it before the gig! Still no source for a shade device, though.
I think sunglasses would be good to make us in the band look better, so long as they are worn by the audience...

I've had this problem before. If I remember rightly, I fashioned a makeshift three-sided sunshade out of cardboard and Sellotape. It did help a bit...

I didn't really but thinking along those lines, why not tape a loo roll middle to the display and peer down the tube!

Why not tape a piece of thin coloured perspex over the display. The type used for stage spot lights! Another and maybe better choice would be the coloured wrappers from Roses or Quality Street chocolates - at least if it didnt work you could eat the chocs or forward them on to me!!
