It's impossible to assess the true sound of these speakers from listening to the miked up PA version heard on the tour but Dave's thoughts will be interesting.

I wish JMI made a serious effort at developing their own image, even if the product were marketed to be the Vox AC30 that Vox no longer makes. The fact that they look like a Vox amp and that contorted name to justify a historic acronym ("Justin Musical Instruments?!!) make the amps, good as they might be, look like fakes. Just like the fake Louis Vuitton suitcases. That turns me off and tells me "buy the real thing." Just my opinion.

Although I have a dislike for this firm because of their dreadful attitude, the amplifiers are not mere copies. They have bought the original Vox blueprints from the real JMI and have permission to reproduce these amplifiers. I have had one here and it was superb. The only reason I didn't buy, was because of the attitude of the MD at this firm when I was giving my order. They had the AC30/4 TV Front with white 'diamond tolex' covering advertised on their website at a price that I would have been happy to pay, but as soon as I showed an interest in purchasing I was told that I couldn't have the TV front with the white 'diamond tolex' unless I payed an extra £350.00. I suggested he shove it up his a**** and went and bought the Vox AC15 Heritage, which sounded equally good - saving over £1500 in the process. I went on to add Roger Alcock's Vintage unit (£100) to my Vox AC30TBX and later bought the Australian built AC30/4 and I have never looked back. Like I said these amps are NOT mere copies, but are expensive.

Jim Elyea doesn't make that claim in his book - he only says that they were not made in Italy during the JMI period.

I have seen an Italian Vox AC30, in Roberto Pistolesi's workshop. He had it in for repair and was highly critical of its quality. Had I known at the time that this would ever evolve into a controversy, I'd have asked more questions...

Still, I'll see Jim Elyea early next week and will see what he has to say on the subject (of post-JMI Italian AC30s).

I had a Shads Anniversary JMI 30/6 (No 9) out of ten and it was superb but too heavy for my back problems, Dave did play through it at a Hankies get together and everyone who heard it thought it the 'dogs danglers' !!

I have one still in use at home for not on stage. Sounds perfect and very close to my 69 post JMI AC 30 with silver
speakers.
Next year I will play a 2 1/2 hours gig for a greater audience - only Shadows tunes ( FBI / Apache / WL etc. ) and stuff
from the 60`s - this will be the first public challange for my JMI 50 Anniversary Shadows amp. I think that I will use 2 Amps
on stage inkcluding one Engl or Marshall for the rockstuff.

I am curious if he is also really suited for stage.
