"Let Me Be The One" trivia question, of sorts

Hi, everyone. May I ask a Shads trivia question of the experts and historians on the Board? One of my favourite Shads tunes is Let Me Be The One (...because of Bruce ). A typical concert performance of this song usually includes a bit of choreography in the middle of the song, where John Farrar and Hank swing their guitars back-and-forth and jump towards each other, while Brian hits the symbols.

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of any funny mishaps, where this dance went a little wrong! It would be very easy for John or Hank to have bumped the other person with the neck of his guitar. Or, maybe there could have been some unexpected loud feedback or reverb from the amps?

This particular YouTube clip is one that I have heard a lot about, but I was never able to find it on YouTube until today. The painting in the beginning of the clip is adorable. Then when they start to play...I see Alan Tarney (double ) is back there on the piano...so where's the bass guitar? Bruce!

In the second line of the song, Bruce meant to sing "Let me be the one who really holds you tight" but he made a tiny mistake and then laughs and says "See, I knew it."

I am so glad that YouTube exists. I would never, in a million years, have seen footage like this, by any other means.

That is the actual performance from the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest. Bruce was miming to Alan Tarney's bass playing since - as you say - Alan was on piano.

Bruce's mike fell off the stand and was replaced just before the song started. he fluffed the opening and said either 'I knew it' or 'I blew it'. He recovered quickly, though!

i seem to remember reading somewhere that performing at the eurovision song contest
you were allowed to use upto 8 pre recorded tracks for the "Live performance"
i cant remember where ive seen or heard this,but the eurovisions during the 70's were not all live.
dont know if its all changed now?

The only parts of The Shadows' performance on the 22nd of March 1975, which were live, were the vocals of Hank, Bruce and John and the Eurovision Orchestra, conducted by Alyn Ainsworth. The Shadows' own backing was pre-recorded, probably also used for the studio single/album version. The one part of The Shadows' backing, which was present at the Eurovision performance, but not on the single/album version, were the power chords at the beginning.
