Change Of Address

Postby Jiggerz » 03 Apr 2012, 12:03

CD arrived today, with a note to say the price was reduced so nice bonus there. After 20 minutes of trying to get the plastic wrap off I notice that all writing credits are to Bruce Welsh. Anyone know of him? Is he any good?

...although funnily enough, that is the proper 'pronunciation' of his name, i.e. not Welch...

Martin.

Whoever it is, I hope he isn't dodging his obligations! :)

You mean all twelve tracks are credited to Bruce or only the four originals and the group arrangement credit to "Mozart Forte"?

I have a sheet music/guitar tablature book that has Bruce's name misspelled on every page (as Welsh), which drives me crazy. For the longest while, I avoided using the book because of the misspelling, but recently I started using it and it turned out to be a really good book except for that one issue.

On a funnier note, I always get a kick out of the "Live At the Paris Olympia" album...the one with the purple cover. In the middle of the concert, Bruce introduces the band to the audience, with emphasis on the newer members (i.e., John Farrar). In any case, after he introduces the last person, Hank steps up to the microphone and says something like, "An on rhythm guitar, Mr Bruce "Concord' Welch." (A grape juice joke, I guess. :D )

Best wishes,

"Change Of Address" credits - all down to Bruce, eh? Very strange indeed - unless of course it was really a reference to his efforts as a producer and not composer of all of the tracks!! Re: Bruce's surname....although the Shadows (initially Drifters) began recording for the BBC in 1959 - Bruce's surname was still listed as being Welsh on virtually every BBC contract up until the end of 1967!! One contract famously listed an interesting line up: Jet Harris / Tony Meecham / Bruce Welsh / Hank Karvin. You gotta love it!!

It was rather remiss of me to make such a sweeping statement Rob, I was of course referring to the relevant tracks  Next time I shall list them all individually so as not to confuse/upset iefje ;)

Hi Jayne,
No worries. It all makes for interesting threads eh??

Donna: re - Hank's jibes - the usual wordplay...with Hank playfully sending up Bruce's handsome saturnine features. (refs: slang for nose - 'conk' & the Anglo - French supersonic airliner Concorde...etc., etc). Mind you....Bruce would generally counter by referring to Hank's 'ultra slim ness' refs: Charles Atlas (famous UK body builder of a bygone era) courses and suggesting that Hank should get his money back etc., etc. It was all in jest of course....

Bests.....Rob :)

Rob, thank you for that anecdote about Hank and Bruce. That's really funny. If anyone other than Hank said something of the sort (about Bruce), I might respond tongue-in-cheek with a  emoticon. But I guess if it was Hank, then it's OK  . Or at the very least, :silent:.

Hank is so funny sometimes.

Best wishes,
Donna
