A sad day, when I was a young lad I worked at the Marshalls first factory in Blethcley Jim worked on the shop floor and could be seen working in the wood working shop on the bandsaw and the routing machine ,and he showed me how to cut the covering material for amps and cabs, and how to fix the speaker cloth, wiring the speakers up and testing them out was the one and only time I used a Marshall amp,it was a very small workforce not like what the factory is like now,I have been thinking about my time there and I remember the look on Jim,s face about a couple of times a month a van would pull up and a load of battered amps and speaker cabs would be unloaded , they were repaired never replaced with new, I was told that they belonged to the Who.

This very sad news even made the papers in my geography. Above is a link to the obit from the local paper here, although it was written by someone in New York.

The last paragraph of the obit has a quote from Mr. Marshall:

A connoisseur of Cuban cigars and a single-malt Scotch bottled for him, Mr. Marshall many times refused to sell Marshall Amplification. "You can't take it with you, you can only live in one house and drive one car at a time," he said. "It's the name that means something to me - because it is my name."

God bless you, Mr. Marshall.
