Zoom G2

Hi Anyone using or used The Zoom G2 Effects with EFTP
how does it compare to the old zoom 508 or Yamaha Magic stomp ?

Yes i have tried the Zoom G2 and the sound is very similar to my Zoom G7 .U .I find the echoes on the units are quite good .However i still think that some of the patches on the 508 still take some beating thats why i would never sell mine . When i play i use both units linked together so i have the best of both worlds

Hi Jay also one thought ,when playing the units at home the Zoom G7.1 echoes sound slightly more old fashioned clearer and original you also have the volume pedal fitted on the unit and you can plug it directly into the PA but in the heat of a gig i think the 508 sounds better every time. Patches such as A1 A2 A4 and E1 are so correct ( to my ears anyway lol )

I set up now as follows Guitar - Brad Paisley Drive -508 -G7.U -stereo into two amps with the backing tracks coming out of the AER

i used a 508 for years ,when i bought a Alesis Quadreverb i stupidly sold it
as i thought i wouldnt need it anymore, but im now looking for a budget pedal so i dont have to keep
unhitching the alesis which is set up in my music room.
The Zoom 508 is quite rare now but as you say a great little pedal, i originaly bought mine
2nd hand from Coda Music In stevenage for £45 about 10years ago.
There seem to be quite a few Zoom G2's about at reasonable prices and i think charlie Hall charges £15 for the EFTP patches.
but has ive never actualy heard one in action i thought id ask the question.

I too use the Zoom G2 pedal for LIve work, direct into our PA. We are not principally a Shadows tribute act, more of a '60s band who play usually about six instrumentals among the songs. I have three patches set up with Shads type multi-tap echoes, for any tunes I may be required to play, but I mostly use the Acoustic simulation patch for some nice jangly rhythms. I have two G2s, I find it most convenient, one to use & one as a backup. I have also gone radio for the guitar & the mike.

Because the Zoom G2 has three echo modules it can produce, through Charlie's EFTP settings, some very realistic Shadows echoes.

As Tony says, it can also produce a very good acoustic sound. In fact it can produce a very tasty set of useful effects for live work, with the particular advantage that these can be arranged so that they are close together in one bank.

My regular arrangement for live gigs is
1. Tremolo + reverb
2. Acoustic simulation
3. Chorus
4. Single slapback echo
5. Bright multiecho
6. EFTP Shadows echo
7. Slow flange
8. Not a heavy distortion, just a nice bluesy edge
9. Fast-ish vibrato, not too deep (for Have I The Right)
