The Meazzi "distortion" is 100% part of Hank's early sound. Modern echo box can't emulate it because their sound is far too "clean"...

I agree Didier, but there are levels of distortion from a slightly overdriven sound (just breaking up) depending on how hard you play, to a level of distortion that is hard on the ears.

I have however heard PK's (more than anyone else's) at Shadowmania over the years, and if that's the Meazzi sound, keep it. It suffers from distortion, very thin and tinny sounding and nothing in what it produces, would attract me to shelve out mega bucks to own one.

To an extent Didier I agree, but not to the point of sounding like Slash on a bad day - and I'm not alone in those thoughts, by a long way.

I wondered how long, first Hinge, now sarcasm from Bracket, as the pair of you are obviously joined at the hip you should do a duo, call it say, " Bodge it and Scarper "that would be a great match, two know it alls both minus any talent, you would have them on their feet, ( leavin for the door ) perhaps the pair of you might like to do Shadowmania, oops, sorry, forgot one is banned and the other even louder one blew it and had egg on his face the last time he tried, again a good laugh was had by all, if it was poss the pair of you should attend the friday night social, watching all the other players, you just might have learnt something.
Better keep practicing, what else can you do.

As far as the Amtech Age Pro is concerned I can't comment with any experience of playing through one, but I have heard really good sounds as well as really bad sounds from similar machines. I am of the opinion that as in all of the other trivia around here, it's the down to the player.
From experience I think I can be confident in saying that folks who believe that a certain piece of kit is the 'fast track' to success are living in la la land. I know many folks who have spent thousands on the best of everything and failed - my favourite quote from my mate Damion in his native Yorkshire accent, "If you have all the right gear and still the sound eludes you - IT MUST BE THEE".
Never a truer word was spoken.

Echoes seems to be the topic which always brings out the worst in folks on these boards and it has done every since the earliest days of ShadowMusic.

It pains me when folks start falling out and interpersonal sniping gets going... please stop it! It does none of us any credit...

As to the topic, I have owned Meazzi, Binson, ESE, Q2, Magic Stomp, Atlantis and in the old days, Copycat. My conclusion? There's more of "that" sound in your fingers than anywhere else... or the lack of it. The other stuff just helps... and your choice may well be conditioned - as it was for me - by how easy it was to use and manage in an on-stage context. So when playing the early stuff with Legend - a rare occurrence, and usually at Newcastle or Whitby - rosewood board Custom Shop Strat, EF86 preamp channel in a modded AC30, Q2 echo, and the playing techniques outlined in the Getting That Sound thread... I was happy with it, the band was happy with it, the experts I respect in Newcastle liked it, and the ordinary Sunday lunch folks in Whitby enjoyed it too...

And if there's anyone here who thought it was crummy... then that's OK too... life's too short... :D

So please ... PLAY NICELY... it's only rock'n'roll... ;)
