Hi Syd and Gary,
Yes, Jet has had a new beer named after him ... it's called "Golden Jet" and was brewed by Andy, at the Fulflood Arms in Winchester, especially for the Beer Festival held at their sister pub The Queen Inn in Winchester. It was sold at the Beer Festival over the bank holiday weekend 4 - 7 May.
As far as I know, it wasn't named after Jet because of him having given up the drink (although he had!!) ... it was named after him as a tribute and so that the beer could be sold to raise funds for the Jet Harris Memorial Fund at The Queen Inn Beer Festival. Janet, Barry and I were there and I've just heard that they raised £700 for the Fund over the weekend. So, a big thank you to Clive (landlord of The Queen Inn) and to Andy - his son. Thanks also to all the people at the Beer Festival in Winchester who supported the Fund!!
There is some info on the Jet Harris Memorial Fund website:
http://jetharrismemorialfund.org/news.html and a little more info on our Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Jet-Harris-Memorial-Fund/202219979846554 I'll be posting some photos on FB in the next couple of days.
The beer will also be sold at the Southampton Beer Festival if anyone would like to try it!! I don't think the proceeds from the Southampton event will come to Jet's Fund, but I'm told there will be a write up about the Fund in the Southampton brochure.
There was an article in the Southern Echo but I didn't realise that it was also reported in the Sun.
Hope this helps!
Best wishes
Audrey
