I watched MOST of the Royal gig and thought, generally, it was good.
High points were Jessie J - great voice and looked really happy to be there; Madness on the roof singing 'Our House' - the visuals with the front of the Palace peeling away and becoming a row of terraced houses, was awesome! Kylie - always looks great and seems to enjoy herself. The Fireworks at the end.
Lowpoints; Will.i.am; no doubt he has talents, but singing isn't one of them; Paul McC and Elton (both shouted rather than sang); Cheryl Cole, need I actually say more?
Cliff was disappointing in that he sounded out of tune. I have heard him sing better. Grace Jones was a revelation. Had no idea she was in her 60s! A shame she thought it was the Queen's birthday, though!
All in all, spectacular.
Of course the miserable contingent always have to moan at times like this, accusing the Royal Family of being parasites, etc.. (Probably confusing them with The Royle Family!) But failing to accept that they, the Royals, are not really a waste of money at all, when one considers the high esteem in which they are held throughout the world and the huge amount of money they bring into the country, via tourism, etc... They are one of the things that makes Great Britain unique. Yes, vast amounts of public money ARE wasted, but I dare not even begin to mention how and on whom.
The Jubilee seemed, to me, to bring the nation together and give us a good reason to party and have a good time on a truly monumental scale. For those who insist on whinging, I would suggest you move to China.
All the best,
Chris.
P.S. Shirley Bassey was great too and so was dear old Rolf Harris - a shame that Lenny Henry so rudely interrupted him.
