Rob :)

In April or May 1966, celebrating 10 years of broadcasting in the North and the Midlands at weekends, ABC Television (who made "Oh Boy!") made a retrospective programme which included a segment of a 1959 "Oh Boy!" showing Cliff and The Drifters playing Mean Streak (back in the Antoria days). I mentioned this to Paul Rumbol a few years ago, and he dutifully tracked down the retrospective at the BFI. A short extract was used in a documentary about Cliff a couple of years ago. The important implication, though, is that if ABC TV still had a seven-year-old programme in 1966, it may well still exist today in the Canal + archive...

Certainly, Hank was co-writer with Pete Chester of "Teenage Love" (credited as Rankin on the label), presumably the number performed on the show.

According to NME 11 july 1958, The Chesternuts were due to make their TV debut on 6.5 Special on Saturday July 12th.
BTW i picked up The Shadows By Themselves following George's reply to my initial enquiry. It's a very interesting read and well worth picking up if you get the chance.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread (and the board for that matter).

Thanks, Ash, for the confirmation of the actual date of the broadcast, which up until now I hadn't been able to ascertain, although it had to be about this time of the year. The Radio Times billing for the show, perhaps not surprisingly, doesn't include the group, concentrating on the more established acts of the time. Interestingly, the Frantic Five increased by two members from time to time... ah, the memories!
