There was a programme on last night (either BBC 2 or BBC Four) all about the suburbs of London. Very interesting, especially since we used to live in one. Of more interest, perhaps, was that the Shadows version of 'Semi-detached Suburban Mr James' was played near the end...

Yes - saw the programme last night. I was surprised to hear The Shdows' version of S-DSMJ, especially as it isn't a piece of library music and comes from a pop album of 45 years ago which most current media people would regard as obscure.

But it is possible that the producer wanted that song but didn't want the original Manfred Mann vocal (too obvious) and looked online for other versions, hunting for an instrumental.
