In one of life's coincidences, his obituary appeared on the right hand sheet of The Independent's obituary pages opposite that of the British film director who has just died, so from left to right it read Tony Scott Scott McKenzie.

Incidentally, the feature that 'lifted' San Francisco was the key change part way through. Does anyone know if John Phillips wrote that as part of the original song or whether it was worked out in the studio?

Yes, I remember hearing the track on the radio when it was a hit in 1988. Every time I hear it, it brings back some fond memories. I was six years old at the time.
