Shadows/Vipers Tunes

I saw this album on Amazon.co and it seems to be one of the many "expired copyright" albums that are circulating. I was just curious if anyone had any information or even an opinion of the last two tunes, which are supposedly by The Vipers (Summertime Blues, and Liverpool Blues). I am familiar with Eddie Cochran's cover of Summertime Blues.

It seems like the Vipers' tunes are on this album, using the logic that Jet and/or Hank were once Vipers.

Do you think the two Vipers' tunes on this CD would have neither Jet nor Hank in the recording? My gut feeling is that no, neither Jet nor Hank would be involved in these songs.

Apparently, Liverpool Blues and Summertime Blues each feature Jet Harris and Tony Meehan.

Liverpool Blues, by the way, is by far the better track: a quasi-seafarers song akin to the much better-known Maggie May or San Francisco Blues. It features the late and much-missed Wally Whyton on vocals. I believe that Johnny Booker sings the lead on Summertime Blues.

Seems Strange to call it " The Early Days "and then have a picture with Brian Bennett & Jhon Rostill on the cover.
Jet and Tony would have been on all the early recordings.

The Vipers' Summertime Blues/Liverpool Blues single (issued October 1958) was produced by George Martin, but Hank's brief involvement with the group consisted of just a week's live work in Birmingham.

Thank you very much for the info on The Vipers songs. Jay, I couldn't agree more on the selection of the cover photo. For entertainment purposes, here is another album cover from an expired copyright album. Many song titles are misspelled in a big way, and the running times on the songs are wrong...although that's not so important. I can't decide which misspelled title is my favourite because they're all so funny. Nice Stratocaster, too.

How ironic that these clowns can all but ruin an album, but many of you can't post your covers of Shadows tunes on YouTube. Maybe Warner Chappell ought to redirect their attention to this type of thing instead.

rubbish covers and artwork like this straight down!!!

That second CD is a bootleg, some of the tracks are not 50 years old yet.

As regards the CD pictured above (the one with the Guild Slim Jim guitar in the illustration), Geronimo is not yet out of copyright, being less than fifty years old from its release date (late 1963).

The same is true of Shindig (autumn 1963), Genie With The Light Brown Lamp (late 1964), The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt (early 1964), The Drum Number (autumn 1964) and Don't Make My Baby Blue (summer 1965).

That CD is not lawful - it's a bootleg (unless they're all live versions and it was issued somewhere that allows or used to allow a shorter copyright on live recordings).
