Lakeside charged Bruce many thousands of pounds for Lakeside... per day. And that meant that Friday's "Bruce rehearsal" was also charged at full rate. And - yes - the charge went up every year much to Bruce's irritation, so much so that, one year, I researched a number of different venues for him round the country, including Birmingham, London and Blackpool - which was the best deal. But Bruce likes to be close to home, likes Lakeside, bit the bullet and paid up every year.
