After the dreadful weather of the earlier week, we were greatly relieved when, for one day only, the rain and wind went away, permitting Ken Gilbert and myself to go ahead with our Aberystwyth Children in Need event. For the second year running we performed Shadows (and similar) music for the people of Aberystwyth, this year right in the town center and with the expert fundraising help of the local Lions club. We played from 11.00am to 3.00pm, non-stop, and in those four hours, the public put an amazing £530 into the Lions' collection boxes. With £20 which we had been given before we even started, that made a thumping £550 on the day.
Again, as with our event in 2008, we had lots of people of all ages coming up to tell us what a pleasure it was to hear this music. Many times we were asked if we had a CD that they could buy (we certainly missed a trick there, but then again, I'm not sure we'd want all the copyright hassle!)
We also had a couple of Shads fans come up and ask us to 'pass on our regards to the boys'! I'm not sure who they thought we were! So anyway, if any of 'the boys' get to read this, regards are herewith passed on.
Once again, any of you who have never done anything like this, I strongly urge you to have a go. It not only raises lots of money for a good cause but also seems to give a great deal of pleasure. And it's jolly good fun, too!
