I was watching Slade at the BBC the other night, whcih was brilliant by the way, and was thinking that there can't be MANY bands out there that have appeared on the BBC as much as the Shadows (60s, 70s and 80s remember). I was thinking not only of the obvious TOTP appearances (some of which we are enjoying on BBC FOUR at the moment!) but also the numerous others over the years. I remember Hank and Bruce appearing on Multi-Coloured Swap Shop in Feb 1977 to promote 20 Golden Greats - and then of course there was the Swap Shop appearance in 81 as they mimed to 'This Old House' out on one of Keith Chegwin's O/Bs and the wind blew Brian's cymbal over! Then there was the time they performed 'Willie and The Hand Jive' with Little and Large and sang a vocal version of 'Dance On' with Cilla. And what about Saturday Night at the Mill with Jenny Hanley; The 6.55 Special (??) with Sally James and the odd Wogan or two...
And that, I'm sure, is just the tip of the iceberg.
So, even though the commercial release on CD of 'The Shadows at the BBC' hasn't yet happened, and may never happen, I am guessing that a compilation show (maybe introduced by Bruce?) of the BBC appearances would present fewer problems and could potentially happen.
So, does anyone have a reasonably definitive list of all the Shads BBC appearances over the years?
