The Shadows Musicday 15th october 2000 remember it?

Postby bor64 » 22 Mar 2014, 11:12

Indeed a long time ago....the lovely MOE aka Maureen A. had a splendid idea to let us, playing members of the first old shadowmusicsite play shads music around the world for about 24 hours nonstop.
Lot of bands and make shift bands did participated in the project.
The idea was also to video it all and presented a compilation to the shads as a tribute.
As far as i know just two bands managed to film it completely so the presentation fell into the water.
I put the original videotape on dvd about 8 years ago and sadly lost track of it...
Just recently found it between rumble on the attic ...how it got there will be unsolved forever...
Put it this morning on YT so everybody can watch it and have a good or horriffing time ;)
What i can remember about that happening is not all good, sadly enough just a little more then 24 hours before the filming 3 memebers of the make shift live band got cold feet. They canceled the gig! :o :( :?
Only the idea to have phone Maureen and pulling us out of the project made me sick in the stomach. So with renewed energy called in some faveurs and put together a again make shift band....but without rehearsal and with the help of midifiles because the boys didnt play all the tunes in there own repertoire as a partyband.
So just a quick run-through to get the numbers in some order and some pointers as remember this file of chai has an extension on the savage and the ending of tyo is the same as the mid solo... a few hail mary and there we go...
The band uses a kind of in ear system,so i had to improvise a set for myself, a fm headphone set with little earplugs was at hand....
I was so "lucky"to got radio moscow on my ears instead of me and the backingfiles...
What i didnt know( the keyboardplayer didn't mentioned this)a local radiostation was based in the same building,so their transmitter shift/pushed my signal completely into space. My signal from my guitar to my rig was solid, the shure did its work.
The downside was i could only hear the sound of the files and a little from my mates tru the pa and bounching from the wall in combo with my own sound from the matchless and had to play alongside.
If that wasn't enough the videoguy was also a hardcore fan of getting the bandmembers a proper tan with the lights close quarters in our faces.
tfc was done in a blurry white mist almost done by feel and memory where i was with my hands on the neck.
It toke me about 7 tunes to get normal eyesight back, now i know how a rabbit feels in the headlights of a car....
Anyway i hope you enjoy it and coments are welcome.

Rob

I remember that well, Rob. It was actually my idea, and the excellent Mo volunteered to drive it along, which she did, brilliantly... 24 hours of worldwide Shadows music... live across the globe! :D

Hi David,I'm sorry I didnt have my facts straight....it was a splendid idea btw!
We had fun doing the recording, although a videocam just under your nose while trying to play a little guitar isn't exactly my idea of relaxing ;)
The video is watched more then 100 times and this post about 285 times ...Funny is that no one have commented apart of you David, makes me almost wonder why i bothered to post it.
Not even a comment on the fact it happend that day,or somebody like us to know he/she did also partisipated in the 24 hour event....
Oh well those where the days

Cheers Rob
