I am bemused...

As far as I can determine, no one has passed on mis-information or has been scaremongering. Indeed, the opposite. Instead of going public, they have quietly attempted to establish the truth of the situation by talking to someone they trusted to be discreet. In the end, that trail led to two unimpeachable sources who relayed the truth...

Then, precisely to ensure that rumours did not proliferate, Jay and I, independently, posted here. No drama and no hysteria.

In the end, the concern shown only serves to demonstrate Alan's high standing in people's affections... Which I hope he finds reassuring.

I think we should close this discussion and move on now...

There ARE folks around who delight in creating these false stories.
I got caught out not long ago about the demise of Herbie Flowers, who, like Alan, is very much alive.
Good luck if you go on the Hunt for the Idiot who is doing this but I fear that they know what they are doing and hide their tracks well.
