SHADOWS on Billy Cotton Show

The colour of the instruments helps with dating the picture and in most cases the greyish shade suggests they're probably red. However the bass guitar looks white in the lower picture.

Red, I agree. That particular shade of grey in a monochrome picture is unmistakable.

The bass in the lowest picture is still red. The group were issued the replacement white models en bloc. It would look lighter still if it were white!

PS: The Shadows were still using red guitars when appearing on The Billy Cotton Band Show in the first half of 1963 (promoting Foot Tapper and Summer Holiday).

If I remember seeing it was many years ago, they also did Dancing Shoes with only Hank and Bruce appearing in that part of the show to do the backing vocals with Cliff and were miming as they weren't plugged in.
You can also see in these pictures they are not plugged in.

I have the following dates in my lists when the Shads (Locking line-up) appeared at the Billy Cotton Band Show:
1962-05-12 (no further details)
1962-09-08 (no further details)
1963-02-24 (Foot Tapper and The Breeze And I)
The show for the latter date was telerecorded on 21. February with rehearsals on 18., 19. and 20. February.
