It would be wrong to under-estimate the attraction the record exerted at the time, especially to the denizens of Catholic grammar schools.
I was always fascinated by the French lyric and thought I could hear "Angleterre" in there somewhere. Years later, it was all confirmed on the internet. That bit is about King John (a contemporary of St Dominic, apparently).
I'm afraid I was far too young to appreciate the attractions of glamorous young ladies in nun's outfits in 1963

- I do remember it being on the radio a lot though and very catchy it was too - though a little uncool in my mind in comparison with the Beatles - and my parents liked it which was always a bad sign back then!!
Jim, next time we bump into each other at a jam session we'll have to try and play an instrumental version of it - nice catchy melody and root/5 bass part! Glad to hear you have these old records - I have several from that era but most of mine got misappropriated at parties where it was customary for most people to turn up with a few records (or I was so drunk I forgot them and left them behind) or they literally wore out - probably contributed to by blunt/worn out styluses.....
