I love “Sleepwalk.” The Ventures’ version was the first I heard, as their records were better distributed here in this former U.S. colony than the Shadows'. Santo & Johnny’s original became popular then too, but I suppose one gets attached to the first version one hears. The Ventures’ "Sleepwalk" was my favorite for 40 years until I began to play guitar (not too long ago). Then I started to prefer the Shadows’ version – darker, with its minor F chord.

If we are able to, it would be wonderful to play Santo & Johnny's version at one of our Madeleine Cookie Company shows. I heard there is a good old-time steel-guitar player living some 3 hours away. We just have to find him ...

Those are all great versions you posted. Thank you.

It is interesting how some tunes lend themselves to different interpretations whilst others demand that one sticks to the original arrangement.

"Sleepwalk"................what a LOVELY tune!................and what a LOT of examples of great guitar technique in the examples posted here, long live DIVERSITY in music!
I'll not get involved in any "the best one is....." debates, but the one by Leo & Chet was quite a revelation to me - being a long-time Chet Atkins fan - and thanks, Bojan, for posting it as I hadn't heard it before!

Yes, indeed. No "best versions." I'm a big fan of Chet Atkins too, and his "Sleepwalk" was great. Happy holidays to all from sunny Manila.
