I like the 'Rare Television Performances' DVD, mostly from Cliff's TV show from 1960/1, and the Cliff hits DVD, which show nearly all their gear, being used live over time...

You get to see Bruce's Jazzmaster, the Telecaster pictured on the first LP cover(which he said he never played!) the Gretsch 6120, and then the red Strat..plus the various models of Vox amps as they updated them.

Bruce bought his Gretsch 6120 Nashville (a Chet Atkins model fitted with Filtertron h/b pickups) some time in 1960.

He was seen on television with it on New Year's Eve, 1960 (the footage still exists).

He once told me that he bought it out of admiration for Eddy Cochran, and that Hank had already bought his own Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman (another Chet Atkins model) beforehand. This runs counter to a story to the effect that Hank didn't get his own Gretsch until 1961.

Both guitars made media appearances from time to time, but Bruce's probably more so than Hank's. As stated above, Bruice's Gretsch can be plainly seen in the Paris night club sequences in "Summer Holiday" (which puzzled me at the time).

I had a short talk with Bruce Welch when he came at a meeting in Boulogne-Billancourt (France) in 2006. I hasked him if Hank had already bought his Gretsch at the time of the recording of Apache (june 1960), he answered no...
In fact, at this time, they probably didn't had yet enough money for that !

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a shot of Jerry Lordan playing one! ;)
