It's certainly strange how tastes differ.

I thought the acoustic playing was exquisite. And certainly something that Marvin would not have done. The playing involves lots of rest strokes and that is not something I have noticed in Marvin's playing even when he has played nylon strings.

I love the Frampton piece in terms of Thunderball, played with suitable gusto.

I thought We have all the time in the world was insipid. Love the tune. But could not believe that Knopfler had put in such an uninspired performance.

I liked that Brian Bennett chose to perform some of Barry's lesser known pieces. I liked the original Beyondness piece and the Bennett arrangement was excellent.

I also liked the fact that some different excellent guitarists were chosen.

Like George, I would like to know who is performing on the bonus tracks. I only get to hear snippets of them since being Down Under I can't get past the copyright walls. What I have heard is that Mary Queen of Scots is superb.

As a Barry fan I knew all the music bar three tracks and I like all the lesser known pieces far better than the well known ones, which have rather been done to death over the years.

My iPod playlist has those at the top and apart from the Locking/Knopfler tracks they are getting virtually all the plays. The familiarity of the 'big' themes does tremendously prejudice the enjoyment of them I think. Hank was perhaps fortunate
(or clever?) to get a good melody that was not well known (I think?). His is the standout track for me and labelled 'The Shadows' on the player of ourse.

George Geddes wrote:Well, I have just downloaded the four bonus tracks, for the princely sum of £3.98...

As always, the bugbear is that there are no sleeve notes.

I wonder if Warren could share the lineups for these tracks with us?

George

Thanks for that George

I had the CD from Leo's Den and did not know about the Bonus Tracks, have just ordered them from Amazon so look forward to downloading & listening to them tonight

I gather that the CD has sold extremely well on the Leo's Den site.

I also gather that the release date has been put back to February 5th - from January 22nd.

(By the way; I thought that 'records' were usually released on a Monday. When did this change? Or am I just imagining in?)
