Cliff and the Shadows... diamonds?

It's just occurred to me...

In just TWO years time (well, less than that now), it will be Cliff and the Shadows 60th (or Diamond) anniversary!

Now we all KNOW that they won't mount a huge tour again as they did for their 50th, but what about two weeks at the Royal Albert Hall?

Wouldn't that be great? They did two weeks at the Palladium for their 20th and a couple of nights at Wembley Stadium for their 30th, so it seems to me that the RAH is the obvious choice - and so appropriate somehow. No touring, no standing for those who don't want to and the perfect celebration!

That's what I'm putting MY money on anyway!

The chances are remote at best but i think Bruce and Brian would be keen, not so sure about Hank as he seems happy playing small clubs with his Gypsy Jazz Group. He's not really interested in big live gigs these days.
They'll all in their mid 70's - will they still be as good as before i wonder?

My feelings are that Cliff will probably do something on a large scale to celebrate the 60th and maybe it will be possible for the Shads to take part on a smaller scale... maybe one or two nights as special guests?

I certainly don't think it's an anniversary that can go unmarked.

Yes, it's not likely that we'll see them all together on stage again...

...but 'never say never', as I think Hank once said!

To me I think it's more about them having nothing left to achieve as a band anymore - that's why they've restricted it to last tours and celebrations as they need it to be something substantial. A 60th anniversary show might be the right kind of vehicle for a get together and I hope they play a few numbers that we don't normally hear if they do reunite. Such as The Appointment and early Cliff singles.

I'm very pleased they filmed the last tour and the 50th anniversary show - there seemed to be so little visual evidence of what they were capable of which I think harmed some people's perceptions of their talent. Some bands have made dozens of pop videos, live videos, etc, but we didn't have that much in comparison. A video for Singing the Blues would have taken the song above number 40. A least it was another hit for them all.

...Yeah, I think one has to think of being an international pop/rock star in a slightly different way to what we would conventionally regard as 'working'!

No one is suggesting that it isn't hard and it obviously has it's ups and downs, but never the less...

And yes, if I was in a position to stand on a stage, at a huge venue and play to thousands of adoring fans, I think I'd be quite happy to do so, whether I was 70, 80 or 90!

No, they've got nothing left to 'prove', but it's not about that, is it? It would be about 'celebrating' a very, very successful and influential career and musical association. And even though I've seen them all several times, I'd go and see them again - as I'm sure would quite a few on this forum!

My fingers are crossed that something can be pulled out of the hat. My parents have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a huge bash at a very nice hotel with 70 or 80 friends and family. They did that for their 50th too!! You're never too old to celebrate something special.
