Jet Harris the actor?

Postby jimbojet » 11 Nov 2013, 18:47

I have been reading the threads on this site in "The Shadows" story", and following Jets' departure from the Shads there was a lot of talk mainly from Jack Good ( Jets new manager) about Jet doing some acting, does anybody know If he ever got to do any acting roles? I know that there was talk of him doing a speaking role in "the young ones" but the role they had in mind for Jet went to Melvyn Hayes in the end so I understand..

I believe I read somewhere a long time ago something about Jet appearing in a series that used to be on TV many years ago called No Hiding Place. I don't know anything about it or remember seeing him acting and I don't even remember what the series was now but I remember the title.

NHP was Rediffusion's premier police procedural crime series. It was the third to feature Inspector Lockhart, played by Raymond Francis. Actor Johnny Briggs got his big TV break as Lockhart's sidekick.

The programme evolved from previous Lockhart outings "Crime Sheet" and "Murder Bag".

I too can remember some talk of Jet becoming an actor, but it never happened, and I'm sure he never appeared in NHP.

To be honest, Jet wouldn't have withstood the pressures and discipline of an actor's life.

Compared to Raymond Francis, Jet would have had Olivier-like status!!!!!
Well, anyone would really - Raymond Francis was renown for being a lousy actor & always forgetting/fluffing his lines.

I only recall Eric Lander as the sidekick - is that correct and did he replace Briggs? Didn't have TV when the series started!!!!

The IMDB site has all the details of Murder Bag (1957-59), Crime Sheet (1959) and No Hiding Place (1959-67) and the extent of Jet's acting career, so far as it went!

No Hiding Place certainly went out live at the time , and yes Dear Old Superintendent Lockhart kept forgetting his lines!!!
But who can forget that stirring Laurie Johnson marching tune as the shows theme. Certainly made you feel safe and sure
those Chappies at Scotland Yard could solve a crime or too with a good truncheon in the raincoat!!!

Eric Lander was in NHP at some point and even got his own spin-off series, 'Echo 4-2"

Fabian of the Yard, now there was a show. Full of black Wolseleys with bells on the front...
