Ian Geast & Shazam?

Postby piecrusty » 23 Apr 2014, 17:24

Hi All,

As there are quite a few Shadows type bands in Britain with variations in style, and I enjoy watching and listening to how they all do it so well, I have spent quite a while on Youtube and other On line media looking at and listening to many Shads tribute acts. However there is one band that I am struggling to find much video/audio for at all out there and this is 'Shazam with Ian McCutcheon and Ian Geast'. Perhaps I am simply looking in the wrong places but all the usual searches yield very little, if anything at all, by these guys that seems to be on the Net :o . I can't even name the other members of the group which is going to be a bit embarrassing in June as Ghostriders are supporting them at Scarborough! Can any one point me in the right direction to find out a little more about them as I am feeling 'proper higgorant' at the moment? Have I missed something? Any leads, anyone?

Grateful thanks in anticipation :)

A video of Shazam backing Brian "Licorice" Locking on Dakota at Warwick Shadows Club. There is more video around I am sure, but not that easy to find.

Shazam are Ian McCutcheon (lead), John Woodward (rhythm), Iain Purdon (bass), Ron Innes (drums).

Hi Roger,

Thanks for that info, very helpful, at least I know who is who now! I'll check out the 'youtube' clip but you are right it is not so easy to find, most searches return with an unrelated German based (I think?) outfit with the same name.

Cheers, :)

I know Shazam went to Germany last year so there could be a connection. I will be at Scarborough in June so I'll say hallo.

DVDs of Shazam and Ian Geast?

Shazam (Ian McCutcheon (lead), Dave Moore (2nd lead), John Woodward (rhythm), Iain Purdon (bass), Matt Verrill (kb), Martin Verrill (drums)) were top of the bill at the Pipeline Instrumental Convention in 2012, playing
Apache/Riders In The Sky / The Desperados / Nashville Boogie / 36-24-36/Shazam / Somewhere / Equinoxe / Cricket Bat Boogie / Wild Theme / Alentejo / Guitar Tango / Walk Don't Run/Wipeout / Albatross / Peter Gunn / Pipeline / Hoots Mon / I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Arthur

Ian Geast guested with The Silver Shadows for the Children In Need concert in 2009, singing I Gotta Know, A Girl Like You, It'll Be Me, Mean Streak, Gee Whizz It's You

Both concerts recorded as usual with multiple cameras and multitrack sound

PM me for details.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your helpful reply, it seems this is a slightly different lineup of the band to the one posted above, blimey I hope I get the names right at Scarborough  !

Yes I would be interested in knowing more about the DVDs you mention but I was particularly interested in finding public On Line material which in the case of Shazam seems to be strangely lacking, when so many other Shads type bands have material up on You tube etc. This just struck me as unusual unless there was a reason or maybe the band themselves restrict what can be seen publicly. If you are involved with their videos etc you may know why this is.

I shall PM yourself about the videos, perhaps you or someone who knows can PM me if there is some reason that prevents them putting out more material, unless of course it is confidential. Just seems odd that such a 'class' outfit, with such accomplished players, have such little public on line presence. Im genuinely puzzled, thats all! :?:

Thanks again Ray, will now PM. :)

To set the record straight the current line up is as Roger has said, however there are times when one of the band is otherwise engaged such as Germany last September where Iain Purdon had a previous commitment and we were delighted to welcome Ian Cross on bass who did a superb job.
We will be at Pickering on 13 June and Scarborough Gala on 14 June with the current line up.
