Thunderbirds are GO! Unique Test Footage.

Postby drakula63 » 01 May 2014, 14:24

I have been informed that May 13th sees the Blu-ray release of the film Thunderbirds are GO!

What is going to be of interest here is that it will include the black and white test footage of the REAL Cliff Richard and the Shadows, shot prior to the making of the film. Clearly this was shot as reference material for the puppeteers. I have got the footage, courtesy of a 'friend in high places' and I must say that it is absolutely fascinating.

The footage I have is approx 15 minutes in length and comprises Cliff and the Shadows miming to 'Shooting Star' and then Hank, Bruce and John miming to 'Lady Penelope'. There are multiple takes of 'Shooting Star', a straight forward group shot and individual close ups of each member of the band playing the song - the solo footage of Brian Bennett is brilliant!

I've been asked not to share the actual footage, but I am mentioning it now so as to urge everyone to buy the Blu-ray! The film is very good and the inclusion of this bonus footage will make it an essential purchase!

Is it just Blu-Ray, or will it also be available as a DVD for us ancients who don't have state of the art gear?

Er, what is Blu-Ray? Can a DVD player cope with it?

I think that the latest Blue-ray is called Blue -ray Monday. If you listen to the adverts on TV for the latest film releases they usually say " out on DVD and Blue -Ray Monday"

Thanks Ulrich. I hadn't realised that it was a) a US release and b) limited quantity.

As I say, I've seen the footage and it's great. Unfortunately I do not have a Blu-ray player - yet - so I won't be able to enjoy it in HD for the time being! That being said, I am fairly sure the footage will turn up on youtube (although NOT from me, I hasten to add!!!) fairly quickly!

Does this mean it can only be played on US Region 1 Blu-Ray players, or is it region free?

Hello All

Can someone tell me:

Why is it that a BRITISH film, made in BRITAIN, starring a BRITISH singer and a BRITISH GROUP is only available to watch in the U.S.A on Blu-ray? Surely there is something wrong here.

Jim :?: :?:

Life is full of mysteries! ;)

I suspect that it WILL be released by a UK company eventually. Good to know that Thunderbirds is big in the US, even if they haven't necessarily heard of Cliff Richard and the Shadows!!!
