Last Concert for the Fans?

Postby wstagner » 27 Nov 2009, 02:26

How many here would pay how much to attend a "final" Cliff/Shads concert in a more "intimate" venue....say 2000 seats or so?

This would be something like the "old days" when they performed live.

Will never happen, but I'm curious what say all of you?

Yes and with some of the more obscure songs

Yes, like what Bruce does w/his band.

I do think the toons they picked for the reunion were good though.

It's too late in their careers now, but I actually think many of those Cliff/Shads vocals could be big NOW here stateside.
Why? Music like this now is considered country music. But, who cares how it's classified as long as it sells?

Mmmm.... I wonder if, now that relationships are mended, ShadowMania could actually feature The Shadows?

Wouldn't that be something?

Hello David,
Now there's a very good thought!
Maybe someone closely associated with our boys will read your post and who know what could happen.
Wouldn't that be great.
Cheers,
JB

I agree with you David, but I also couldn't help wondering whether relationships are really mended, at least all of them, with Jet Harris, for example. I'm sure there are many people who would have loved to see Jet appear on this concert tour, or at least on one of those concerts, for example, the one that was recorded for the DVD, and play the songs that he played 50 years ago, or even to make a guest appearance and play just one song, Apache or FBI. Of course, in the meantime Jet fell ill and probably would not have been able to practice or play in the concert anyway, but as we know, they did not even mention him at any of the concerts. As it was suggested on an earlier thread, a short tribute to Jet, especially at this time when he is going through a rough period in his life, would have brought a standing ovation. Jet was not only the leader of the Shadows, and probably, in addition to Hank, their most charismatic member, but he also gave the Shadows their name. And let's not forget that at one point in their early careers they were even called the Four Jets.

I realize this is a touchy subject and there are many issues involved here that we fans don't know about, not only personal, but also logistical, and even legal, and my aim here is not to rekindle any old arguments, but I couldn't help writing this because I'm sure that the great majority of us fans would love to see all of the living Shadows get together for just one last time, at an "intimate" concert, let's say at Shadowmania, and thus give true meaning and substance to the word closure!

Hi Bojan,

During the concert it would have been nice if they had
given a mention to all the ex Shadows and honorary Shadows
over the years,

Jet, Tony, Liquorice, John Rostill, John Farrar, Alan Jones, etc.

Just my view and not knocking, I enjoyed the concert I went to!

Anyway What's this about Shadowmania David? ;)

Do you know something we don't? ;)

Now that would be a really fitting finale to the last 50 years, if the Shadowmania format were adopted. This would enable full closure, giving those missing "Shadows" remaining in the wings a final farewell as a group, with guest appearances for their particular period. For me it would be Nivram with jet on bass.

That really would get the audience on it's feet. Also a full Marvin Welch and Farrar slot would also go down well - but that's perhaps a step too far. This could also be a platform for the newer recruits, Ben and Warren to take over the batton etc.

We all can have dreams, but I doubt that this would ever fly - but it would make a fitting finale to their combined playing career in 2011?

But if Cliff was on the bill, Lakeside's capacity of about 1,000 would prohibit all but the lucky few in getting tickets. Maybe The Shadows only if this hypothetical gig was held at the aforementioned venue.

Martin.
