Of the few Cliff/Shadows early sixties TV appearances which still exist, most are from the ATV archive. Though ATV's premier variety programme ("Sunday Night At The London Palladium", on which Cliff and/or The Shads appeared many times) was not generally kept in telerecording or VTR format, one or two of those do survive - particularly a late 1965 edition wherein The Shadows played
The Warlord and Cliff sang a medley of his bigger hits. It was from that medley that the (short) version of
Lucky Lips on the "Hit List" video was sourced.
Other than that, most of the ATV surviving archive material is from the major 60m spectaculars televised in 1960/61 (from which
FBI above was taken) and from a series of 60m shows from 1965 (on one of which, Lisa Minelli made her first UK TV appearance as a guest). Almost all the ATV stuff shows either the maple-neck Strat or the Burns guitars. There doesn't appear to be much from the period spring 1961 - Feb 1964 when the rosewood Strats were in use. There was a half-hour ATV show made in the autumn of 1962 (featuring Licorice), and it was a recording when shown, but the film or tape has gone missing, as has the early 1962 Rediffusion programme "Dan Farson Meets The Shadows" (which featured the Harris/Bennett line-up). If anyone finds them, I'll have a copy, please.
