Finnish Shadows

Everyone knows that The Shadows and The Ventures inspired thousands of young boys all over the world to play guitar instrumentals. In Finland, the best two groups were The Sounds and The Strangers. The lead guitarist of The Sounds, Henrik Granö, was only 15 years old when Emma was recorded in 1963.

Both groups soon split up but they have begun to play again after retiring from work. This is The Sounds in 2011 playing at an open-air guitar festival.

Some good playing and really interesting videos, from the 60s.

Finland always has some great musicians.
I saw The Dangermen, in 2013 and they were outstanding.

I think The Sounds still sound good in 2011and perhaps are more of a surf band, than Shadows.

There are many good instrumental bands in Finland, including "The Mustangs" (not to be confused with the French band "Les Mustangs") :



In this country, guitar guitar instrumental music is called "Rautalanka", and there have a festival every year in a place named Nastola.
Do some Youtube searches with Rautalanka and/or Nastola, and you'll find many interesting videos.

I am surprised that you, a Frenchman, are familiar with an event such as the Nastola Rautalanka festival. If you like The Mustangs, you may also like this song, which they recorded with a veteran Finnish singer called Reijo Taipale about 20 years ago.

Yyteri is a beach in western Finland but the video was shot at Hietaniemi Beach in Helsinki. Unfortunately the singer was in hospital with serious injury at the time and consequently he and the musicians can't be seen in the video, which is an extract from a film full of Finnish music.

Yes I like The Mustangs and I have a DVD/CD combo from them which I bought there

Of course I know well Les Chats Sauvages, which I saw on stage at the Paris ABC music-hall in 1962, but I didn't know there was a finnish version of Twist à Saint Tropez !

There is another finnish band which I like a lot : Nightwish, but that's in a very different musical style !

Never mind the musical ability of all bands involved ....I can't see any justified opinion to call these bands "shadows like" apart of the use of instruments and the same number of band members etc .
More like Spotnicks , the same kind of bottom of the barrel scraping sound, only useful for shattering glass....

A Finnish band has appeared once or twice on the Dutch International Cliff Richard & The Shadows Fan Meeting in Berkel-Enschot in The Netherlands. They had a good technique and played quite fast. However, it didn't do anything for me. Most tracks they played had the same rhythm and most were in the same key. On the whole, I found it quite boring to listen to. I can't even remember the group's name.
