Is it just me?

Postby captainhaddock » 21 Jan 2011, 19:40

Due to fear of losing or damaging my Shadows CDs, I tend to burn a copy on my PC for use in the Car and keep the original disc safe at home. I have often noticed that the details of the original disc are often for the wrong CD. As an example, when burning "Life in the Jungle" today, the details and picture for "Jigsaw" came up. This has also happened when burning "Dance With The Shadows" and other discs. I would like to state that a burned disc is 100% for my own use and would in no way be sold or passed on. I would also add that I do not buy pirated discs.
If anyone has found this problem and has come up with a simple answer that a PC duffer can understand, I would be very grateful.
Incidentally, I had not listened to "Life in the Jungle " for many years and I was very surprised how good it was, it's well worth a fresh listen. :D .

Its supposed to be a useful feature but it doesnt work very well, I usually do this offline and type the correct titles in myself, sometimes you get a dodgy album cover too....

I ripped 'Cliff Sings' ( love it )
It's done in mono and then all the same ones in stereo.
All the mono versions came out correct but the stereo ones were all over the place.

I never encountered this kind of problem, may be it's because I don't rely on Windows to handle the job. I use Nero and keep full control on what's being done...

I think that the main problem is that there are so many variants of albums around and when you rip one in Windows Media Player it finds the track list that it "thinks" you require. This can sometimes happen when a CD version of an album has additional tracks and the one that you are ripping has been deleted. In this case it doesn't really matter unless there is a change in the order of the tracks for whatever reason.

I have seen myself having to type in the info after the track list found got it all wrong.

In most cases, there is no problem and it is really no worse than Spotify which has some glaring errors.

The automatically downloaded CD information in Windows Media Player is often incomplete and erroneous. I always edit the information myself.
