Shadowmania 2012 - Set Lists

Postby Arpeggio » 16 Sep 2012, 16:44

Well, it's that time again! I tried to persuade both Alan Taylor and George Geddes to do this.....but they were somewhat reluctant!! However, I did confer with my fellow experts (including a certain Mr James Nugent of course too!) and a couple of band members to try and ensure 100% accuracy!! As ever this is always done literally 'on the spot' and without a 'safety net'!!! Any errors, omissions, additions etc. then please feel free to chip in. I know that many people do like to have a list of what was performed....so here goes....

Rob feigned reluctance yesterday but clearly felt the world needed to know sooner rather than later! A code of silence prevents me from revealing the numbers R did not recognise... I'm sure he will do the same for me. George (on a train between Wigan and Preston)

You are a star Rob. What was I supposed to do without you.I have almost a whole Shadowmania, and I really need a setlist.
Thank you for an excellent weekend. It was good to meet up with old friends, and meet some new ones.
Till next year. ;)

On the plane home to Copenhagen. Somewhere over Holland or Germany

Thanks George, thanks Kitty. I don't film or record anything - so there's no 'checking' apart from what I jot down at the moment the numbers begin to be played. Of course, many are obvious and some (but by no means all!) are announced from the stage (I wouldn't have known "Johnny Ringo" otherwise, for example). Why not be honest (?) myself. I got one number completely wrong, but I then had doubts & so consulted George (who was absolutely correct - ie that I WAS wrong, LOL). I certainly didn't recognise "The Dark Man" (but both George and Alan did) & a couple...it took me a while to remember the titles. But....overall I'm happy with that as 90 titles (if you include the ones in medleys) were 'required'.

The worst experience ever in this regard was at a "Pipeline"Convention in 2008 when the Silhouets were playing. Their set comprised 95% original numbers & they were not a group who I was familar with & nor did I have many of their recordings & nor was there a set list. The announcements were terrible (from the point of view of trying to work out the titles). So many were along the lines of: "This was a big success for us in Belgium in 1965...." (but NOT mentioning the title). "Here's one of our original numbers which needs no introduction..." (er....it DID!). "This one was from our first LP" (but NO title given! - I mean, come on, if someone says from The Shadows 1st LP..it's fine. Now, here's a track from the Silhouets first album....???) "Here's a great number written by Rob Roekens..." (NOT mentioning what it was called). Luckily I then purchased "Then And Now" + a greatest hits CD & managed to piece the set list together....but it was a nightmare!! You see, 'readers' - you just think that it's all 'easy peasy' eh? Seriously though (although the Silhouets' story IS true & did cause me some anxiety!!!) - I love doing it really & several people did ask about it - even within 5 minutes of Shadowmania finishing. 'Tradition......tradition!' ("Fiddler On The Roof") Ah well....until the next time then!

Many thanks Rob - like last year I rely on you for the set lists!!

Big help to me as I've started uploading video's of the show in HD to YouTube so wanted to get the songs correct!
This year It's a 3 camera edit- I've teamed up with Gillian Gatland who video'd from a great seat to the right side of the stage near the front. I was up on the balcony with two cameras.
Here is the link to the channel where they will be uploaded to (Takes quite a time to do the editing)

I automatically uploaded mine to the gilliangvideo channel.

So far I have only done four of the Foottappers, as follows. A few more are still uploading. I'll post the links later.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv1hsekvPdA&feature=plcp - Shindig

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJqymuJ41cM&feature=plcp - 36 24 36

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNgCd39PIck&feature=plcp - shazam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRyau0Jp2hQ&feature=plcp - round and round

Interesting - Phil and I have different edit styles/methods :) Maybe down to different software.
