The ongoing tour reviews

I have read several local/national newspaper reviews from all around the UK - all were very good with the only criticisms being minor and usually to do with some of Cliff's dancing moves ( and who could disagree with that!?) - and with the reviewer usually seeming very pleasantly surprised. The Shads in particular were never rated as anything less than great (eg 'dazzling') and often were said to steal the show entirely. 'Cliff's 'In The Pink' show is Solid Gold' was a typical headline.

Sad how the critics have loved to knock Cliff for no reason over the years. But this show should silence them for once and all - and it appears that in the UK it might have already done that.

Although 'the critics' are many people with many viewpoints, on this tightly-scripted tour there is a lot of 'background' being explained which may have helped 'the critics' in the UK to understand how the music of Cliff and the Shadows fits into the musical picture. We take for granted things like which tunes and songs were No.1, the number of movies that they appeared in, etc, but if a critic was born in, say, 1970 this would all be 'pre-history' and much less familiar. Because of the explanations in the show, critics can come 'up to speed' without betraying their ignorance in the subsequent review.

Now, would I be right in thinking that in the European shows the explanations are still in English? We in the UK are very grateful that so many people in Europe take the trouble to learn English but to understand every word in a fast-moving show is asking a lot. Perhaps the critics in Europe simply didn't understand all the chat between numbers.

Well i did´nt have any problem understanding them and it seemed that the audience did´nt either. I would guess that most negative critics never heard of them before and had no interest in writing a review that is "neutral".

That´s because the music does´nt concern the people with the buying (money) force of the papers, the young adults. (Although i am a young adult with my 28). One would think it´s the opposite. The elderly retierd would have more money than the young adults. But on the other hand the young ones (ah, thats the song ) would be victims to be snared by the papers already so they´ll buy them their whole lifes. Now that´s a lot of OT here.

I was very grateful to Cliff and the Shads that they didn't perform anything from the EP they recorded in French back in the sixties (La mer, etc.), for me it's the worst they ever did !

For Paris, I rather think there was no critics at all. Obviously the concert organiser thought he didn't need any promo, and didn't send free tickets to journalists !...
