The first bass player and drummer to be 'recruited' were Sammy Samwell and Terry Smart. Jet and Tony soon took over but they lasted only some 3 years, before Brian, Licorice and then John - and it's the Rostill line-up that's pictured. An awful lot to explain if you start mentioning other names!

The paragraph which I highlighted was one describing the start of the Kalin Twins UK Tour and the formation of The Shadows, Terry Smart and Ian Samwell were away by then.
Quote; "Marvin and Welch were joined by a bass player and drummer and called themselves The Drifters. There was already an American vocal group of that name, however, and it was soon dropped in favour of The Shadows." - Fair enough if it was for some minor group, this band certainly was not.
Unfortunately articles like this are used as a source of reference many years later and the actual facts can get lost in the process. Regarding the Flying Scotsman, yes many of us from that era recall the class A3 names and numbers! Should you be interested in railways the same thing has applied for decades as captions written later to photographs taken back in these days, are in many cases incorrect. When these photographs are published subsequently in books/magazines the erroneous text is still used even although the publishers have been advised of the correct details.
Ah, the devil is in the detail!
