Without a doubt, Let Me Be The One was the one for Eurovision.
The playful bass and piano line at the beginning (I think there may be some brass in there too) and the generally optimistic tone of the lyrics puts it up there with some of the best Eurovision winners. It was a real crime that it didn't win too.
Don't Throw It All Away, by comparison, is perhaps a superior piece of song writing in many respects, but it is also inescapable that it is little more than a melancholy, maudlin ballad which really would not have been a good choice for the Eurovision Song Contest. I tend to think of the Eurovision as being big and bouncy and fun. Don't Throw It All Away isn't. It is brilliantly performed, however, and really should have been released as a single.
I don't think there's a bad song among the 6 on Specs Appeal and I think that any one of them could have been suitable single material in 1975. I will admit, however, that Cool Clear Air has more of a Marvin, Welch and Farrar feel to it than the Shadows.
