EXACTLY!!! Shotgun is one of my favourites. I wish they had explored this style a bit more.

Blimey!

Ease up mate!

It's been hard enough to learn all the usual tunes where Hank plays the lead alone- let alone trying to play lines that were played by two guitars! :D

MInd you, with some effort I've worked out a few- Stars Fell on Stockton is quite possible using double stops, but it takes a lot of concentration!

Nivram is fairly straightforward- need to use fingerpicking and base it around the full chords, rather than just the plectrum playing single notes..

Yeah, It had me flummoxed for years until I heard one of the BTs (UB Hank or Ian's) which gave me Bruce's part.
Then I could figure out Hank's. We did it at Shadowmania NA in 2003.
Still love it!
Alan.

Hi Alan...yes Shotgun is one of my favourites too. Loved it when I first heard it and still do! It would have been nice to hear it played live by The Shads or with Bruce's band at some point. Another one that seems to have been passed over is "Back Home" a great little ditty that seems to have been almost ignored since the original recording. Unless I missed something....wouldn't be the first time

On the subject of 'dual guitar lines', multi-tracking, etc., see my feature on The Shadows' instrumentation, via Malcolm Campbell's Shadows website. Although I have based decisions on my own hearing, hopefully the feature will provide more information on the subject.

Ivo

You won't get that kind of detail in a general guitar magazine. The feature is more about the playing techniques rather than the equipment.

An impulse-buy, I’ll admit – seeing as I know four fifths of nothing about guitars – but the cover caught my eye!

There’s a really nice editorial by Editor Neville Martin, which really puts the Shadows style and influence into perspective. The Shads get 16 pages – although most of it is inevitably music and tabs – and there are some great pics too. If nothing else, I’ve discovered that the Shads are still held in very high esteem by those ‘in the know’ and that they are still obviously bona fide magazine cover stars. I’ve also learned a few new words and musical terms; none of which I understood before. None of which I understand now. What, for example, is a IV-I plagal cadence?) The accompanying CD, also pictured, contains some fairly decent tunes in the Shads style to play along to. (Interesting that the ‘tremolo arm’ should really be called a ‘vibrato bar’ and was given this misnomer by Fender).

£5.99 reasonably well spent. Now all I have to do is save up for a guitar.
