Sorry Ecc, But i went to the show and Bruce Baxter did play it, i put a thread on this site some years ago trying to find out who the stand in guitarist was and a very good friend of Bruces contacted me and told me the story about him playing obs without any wizardry, he was such a good player they took him back to Sweden when the tour ended until bo was fit enough to play(this was from the horses mouth as they say) not from some blurb in the paper, also the CD you did for me 'Doh work'. regards Keith

It's just not possible to play OSB at the correct tempo, it might have been slower.
I'd love to see someone actually do it at 144 BPM, it killed me doing the backing track, my right arm dropped off.
What have you tried the 'doh work' CD in ?
Knowing your technical abilities it might have been the dish washer. :D

I'd like to see Albert Lee attempt it!

Very interesting! I would generally agree with ecca that it's just not possible.
Back in the early 60's, I managed to learn most of the Spotnicks "Out-A-Space" album by ear, but could never play OSB at the correct tempo. I could manage a good mime, or follow the score in slow time.

However, I know a man who can actually do it at 144 BPM, and it’s all a matter of right-hand technique - he uses a banjo player's finger/thumb picking technique.

I would love to watch somebody do it . I just rechecked the speed and it varies between 138 and 142 BPM.
I used to do it when I was a lad but I'm sure with 50 years hindsight it wasn't the right speed.
I did it recently, my nose also indicates during the video whether I doctored it or not. ( of course I did )

I simply won't believe it until I see it with my own eyes and metronome.

Fascinating thread. Ecca is absolutely dead right re: "Saturday Club" and re: how Bo Winberg would play OBS 'live' (certainly during the 1960s at any rate). But.....the stories about Bruce Baxter playing OSB really fast live onstage are also true. Whether or not he ever managed to play OSB live at the same tempo as the speeded up recording I can't say. But.....he was genuinely unaware of Bo Winberg's studio trickery and he certainly spent hours and hours and hours (probably nearly killing himself in the process) practising the number until he could play it as fast as he possibly could. I learned all of this first - hand from Bruce when I interviewed him waaaayy back in 1983 about his days with John Rostill pre - Shadows. It was during an informal discussion about his own career that he told me some stories about his time with the Spotnicks.
