I would love to hear Hank / Shads playing Blue Star, Theme From The Boys and Evening Comes. Re: old Shadows tunes - just to be fair to Bruce. A few years ago I recall a DJ (whose actual name I can't remember) playing some tracks to Hank off the "From Hank, Bruce, Brian and John" album. Certainly he was played excerpts from "The Tokaido Line", "The Wild Roses" and "Snap, Crackle And How's Your Dad". Hank had to confess that he didn't recognise any of the titles at all and he couldn't remember those particular tracks. But, as he and Bruce have said - many times - tracks were just written specifically for a particular LP - recorded in the studio and then (in many cases) never ever played again. Add on a time elapsed of 30, 40, 50 years (!!) - and it's no wonder that they can't remember everything.

One of the many that I would love to hear live is "Scotch on the Socks".

'Turn Around and Touch Me' - heard it for the first time on Radio Luxembourg a hundred years ago - nearly fell off the ladders I was on at the time (decorating my brothers house). I'd heard rumours they were getting together again but it blew me away. The reception was terrible as RL was in those days but as soon as I heard the opening bars I knew something was up - the presenter only confirmed it was The Shadows at the end - but you could tell - you could just tell it was the guys - sheer class. I know they did it live at The Paris Olympia but I'd still love to hear it live for myself - tricky without the fabulous John Farrar but what a number to do!

[quote = "Arpeggio"] Ich würde gerne hören, Hank / Shads spielen Blue Star, Theme From The Boys und der Abend kommt. Jedenfalls war Er spielte Auszüge aus "Die Tokaido-Linie", "The Wild Roses" und "Snap, Crackle And How's Your Dad".

Thanks for that information Heinz. I knew about those BBC 1967 / 68 shows. I was just trying to make a general point. Yes, Hank & co. recorded some of those tracks for "From H, B, B & J" - which was released in late 1967 and they did indeed play a few of them live for BBC Radio shortly afterwards - but that was it. Most of them they didn't play again after early 1968. The programme I was referring to was when Hank was interviewed sometime during the 1990s - nearly 30 years later - and he couldn't remember those particular tracks at all.

Best wishes Rob :)

"The Lost City", "Santa Ana" and "Breakthru"--all from same LP.

Greg, It's almost pointless me posting because we think so alike!

Played those three tracks to death when I got that LP. Suspect all three could have been released as hit singles if they had been recorded pre-1963.

"Breakthru" is probably my favourite and would make a standout for The Rapiers. Leave you to persuade Colin!

Having said that, Jerry Lordan conjured up an amazing picture in music with "Santa Ana". My second favourite Lordan track behind "Wonderful Land". "The Lost City" is another great atmospheric number.

"Turn Around and Touch Me" is another that would be a bit special played live.

Rob, keep coming with those insightful posts. You don't do enough ... What are you doing all day???!!!

Good thread but then it is Mr Martin!

"The Lost City!" Why they never released it as a single is beyond me. "A Man's World" was a missed opportunity too!
