Pierre TEODORI wrote:Strange nobody mentionned this is a Shadows's tune written by Hank Marvin.

Bruce Cramley mentioned that in the first message, Pierre.

Well, not the fact that Hank wrote it, but the fact that it was a Shadows track at least.

I can echo all the advice re Doddy, Jim.

I took my father in law to see him once. Show started at 8 pm. By about 1215 we'd both dozed off and woken again at least once. (No disrespect to the amazing Ken Dodd, we were just tired.) We agreed to slip out so I could drive him home. After dropping him off I returned via the theatre. It was now past 1 am and the lights were still shining brightly inside...

He will not, and probably cannot, get off!

Yes Jim, I saw The Shadows were mentionned, but I thought it was good to mention the name of the composer.
But perhaps I'm too fussy :)

And, IMHO, the Shads version is in a different league.

Cheers.

I've always loved this song. Takes you back to a time when the B side was worth listening to and not just another track.

Great harmonies (both versions) when artists could really sing and not have to rely on frequency altering software to keep them in tune.

Very George Martin stereo mix with the instruments left and the vocals right. Perfect for making a backing track to sing to.

I thought they sounded a bit like The Hollies!

'Roach,

I thought they did most of their recording in Sydney and Vince Malouney did the session work, as well as on stage backing on tour after he left The Aztecs. Note him on guitar here in '67 - and I think Colin Petersen on drums. ;)

VM and CP were indeed members of the five-man Bee Gees when they arrived in the UK in 1967 or so.

Vince Melouney was a memorable figure at the time because he had a Gibson Les Paul Standard (which was unobtainable new at the time).

The drummer, Colin Peterson, was actually the star of the Bee Gees in the early UK days because he was the only one we'd ever heard of. He was well-known via his involvement in several British films as a child actor.

JimN,

Col Petersen was of course the original 'Smiley' in the movies of the same name. Here's a clip of Vince melouney as a member of the Aztecs in '64.(Note the Bisons!)
