As a fairly regular reader of the Mail (yes, afraid so!), I have to say that I find the paper to be one of the more rational and sensible tabloids. I don't think that this is 'typical of the Daily Mail', but more typical of someone trying to stir up some controversy and bad feeling against someone.

Jet's premature death is a tragedy. No two ways about it. He is a great loss on both a professional and, more importantly, personal level. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but remember him responding light-heartedly to one of my inane posts on this very forum. Quite what Jet would make of all this nastiness, I dread to think. If anyone is actually 'in the wrong' here, then, in my opinion, it's Jet's 'manager' for being so insensitve as to start spouting this rubbish at such an inappropriate time.

Goodbye Jet and may you Rest in Peace.

Chris.

Audrey called me on Monday evening and we discussed this. It had been a very hard day for her and, of course, Janet. They had got back from dealing with legal formalities only to discover this news. It naturally caused even greater upset.

In contacting the Daily Mail, Peter Stockton acted of his own accord without consulting Jet's family or close friends. Jet himself never agreed with the sentiments expressed in the article. I can vouch for that personally; he and I had spoken about Cliff once whist we relaxed after a Shadowers rehearsal and there was absolutely no bad feeling. And Jet never covered up his feelings.

As Amanda has said, Peter Stockton has now been fired from his position and is no longer the representative for Jet's affairs or Jet's family.

There is no bad feeling towards Cliff from Jet's family and friends. I know Janet and Audrey want it to be common knowledge that Peter Stockton's criticizm of Cliff Richard in the Daily Mail is not supported by Jet's family and is not what Jet would have wanted, nor does it reflect Jet Harris' feelings toward Cliff.

Lastly (and I hope this doesn't sound patronizing), I'd like to praise Audrey for her hard work and for being such a great support to Janet during this awful time. Since Friday morning she has spent much of her time engaged in correspondence to make sure everything is done correctly and properly, to keep everyone up-to-date (either personally, via websites such as this or via the media) and to be a friend and comfort to Janet. She's been doing all this whilst fighting her own grief as one of Jet and Janet's closest friends. Thank you, Audrey.

Let's not let this newspaper article cloud what should be our focus: remembering Jet for the music, the laughter and his wonderful personality.

Very well put Justin. Once again you have shown us what a sensible head you have on those young shoulders
I'm sure Janet, her family and Audrey will take some comfort from your words.
Kindest Regards

Bravo John Skelton and Justin Daish!! Well said indeed. Can I just add - as someone who first got to know Jet quite well 27 years ago - that I've spent many, many hours talking privately to Jet. I can honestly say that in all that time that he never once descended into self - pity and he never had anything bad to say about Hank, Bruce, or Cliff. Sure, he would have liked to have played some part in the proceedings of 2004 / 5 and 2009 / 10 - which is only natural. But.....I never heard him go on about it at any great length and he didn't 'slag' anyone off. He was too busy thinking about his own concert appearances and future plans. Peter Stockton has behaved with great insensitivity at such a distressing time for Jet's close family, friends and relatives.

Small report in today's Daily Mail by Littlejohn about Jet - only short but much better than yesterday's report. His final sentence "Jet's genius and generosity should be his epitaph"

Well put Justin, Peter Stockton's comments are a disgrace to the memory of a wonderful man.
Let him rest in peace and as always our thoughts and prayers are with Jet's family and friends.

Hi All,

At the risk of making Audrey blush even more I'd like to echo Justin's
remarks about her, It was Audrey I broke the news of the Mail story to yesterday,
and felt awful about doing it immediately afterwards, but as I said to her if it hadn't been me
it would have been someone else. It allowed the family to take immediate action and Audrey rang back
within an hour or so to ask me to put the announcement on I did.

Finally at this sad time, my commiserations and condolences to Janet and Jet's family, Audrey and Barry,
and of course to all the fans out there mourning Jet's passing.

This Stockton business is just plain ugly. If he's truly grieving over Jet's passing, I wish he had channeled his pain some other way than lashing out at Cliff.
